Maquan Sponsors Charitable Book Project
Sale Proceeds to Benefit Athletic Departments of Two Local High Schools
Walpole, MA - November 2, 2007: Maquan Communications today announced that it has joined with two of its strategic partners to sponsor the publication of a book on the history of a longstanding Thanksgiving Day football rivalry between two public high schools in Massachusetts — an effort intended to raise funds for their athletic departments.
According to Scott Sacco of Maquan, Little Big Game chronicles the history and cultural significance of the rivalry between Abington High School and Whitman-Hanson Regional High, one of oldest in the country. Maquan is funding the design and printing of the book along with two of its strategic partners, Clearpoint Communications of Brockton and Webster Printing of Hanson.
The limited edition book will be sold over the internet (www.littlebiggame.net), at local retail outlets and at the two schools starting in November. The profits from the sale of the book will be donated equally to the two schools.
Little Big Game traces the history of the rivalry from its inception in 1915. It includes a historical overview of the relationships between the three towns and two schools; a summary of every game played between them dating to the late 1800s; profiles on eight of their most prominent coaches; and, an oral history that includes the comments and recollections of 64 former players and coaches who participated in the game between 1925 and 2004. The book will be 256 pages long and will contain 222 photographs.
“Public high schools in this area face considerable budgetary challenges and their athletic departments often struggle with funding shortfalls,” said Sacco. “We’re hoping this project, which was the brainchild of my late friend, Paul Schofield, will enable Abington High and Whitman-Hanson to capitalize important projects and initiatives that might otherwise fall through the cracks.”
